| Abstract | Arylated phenylsulfonylacetonitriles, e.g., PhCH(CN)SO2Ph, and Et cyanoacetates, e.g., PhCH(CN)CO2Et, were prepd. by nucleophilic substitution of cyclopentadienyliron complexes of chloroarenes, e.g., I, with NCCH2R (R = SO2Ph, CO2Et) in the presence of potassium carbonate in DMF followed by photolysis. This synthesis is advantageous over all those previously reported and should be a practical route to a variety of alkanoic acid and heterocyclic precursors. [on SciFinder(R)] |
