| Abstract | During May to August 1989, serum samples were obtained from 1933 cows in 61 herds of dairy cattle on Prince Edward Island, and tested for bovine leukaemia virus antibodies by agar-gel immunodiffusion. Of these, 106 (5.5%) cows from 30 herds were positive for leukosis. By county, positive results were obtained for 1.4% of cows, 23.1% of herds for Kings; 6.9% of cows, 55.6% of herds for Queens; 6.0% of cows, 56.7% of herds for Prince. Although almost 50% of herds are infected on Prince Edward Island, it is suggested that the low percentage of infected cows affords a good opportunity to eradicate BLV.. |
