| Abstract | Nucleophilic arom. substitution of cyclopentadienyliron complexes of chloroarenes with oxygen-contg. nucleophiles led to the isolation of a no. of arom. ether complexes in very good yields. Reactions of these complexes with 1-naphthol, followed by removal of the cyclopentadienyliron moieties produced arom. ether compds. with terminal naphthoxy groups. Polymn. of these monomers in the presence of ferric chloride gave poly(aryl ethers). These materials were obtained with wt.-av. mol. wts. up to 139,900 g/mol. Thermogravimetric anal. of the poly(aryl ethers) showed that these materials displayed no significant wt. loss until 458°-575°. The glass transition temps. for these polymers ranged from 147° to 226°, as measured by differential scanning calorimetry. [on SciFinder(R)] |
