|Abstract||Horses admitted to the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital between 1 July 1992 and 30 June 1994 were studied to determine associations between horse demographics, horse-management factors, and equine C. pseudotuberculosis infection in California. 134 case horses were evaluated, and 800 controls. A questionnaire was sent to the owners of all horses enrolled in the study. Horses aged between 1 and 2 years or between 3 and 5 years, and horses in contact with other horses or horses on summer pasture were significantly more likely to be diagnosed with C. pseudotuberculosis infection. It is concluded that changes in stable hygiene, insect control and changes in pasture and paddock practices as well as early identification and isolation of infected horses, are the best measures for disease prevention.|
