Carmen Fuentealba
BiographyCarmen Fuentealba DVM, MSC, PhD is a Professor of Veterinary Pathology in the Department of Ecosystem and Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Calgary (UCVM). Dr. Fuentealba did her pathology residency training at Texas A&M University and received her PhD degree from the University of Liverpool, England. She holds a DVM degree from the Austral University of Chile, and a MSc (Animal Pathology) degree from the University of Chile.
Dr. Fuentealba has considerable teaching, diagnostic pathology, research and administrative experience. As an educator she has developed expertise in curriculum development and assessment. Dr Fuentealba served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island and founding Associate Dean for Clinical Programs, College of Veterinary Medicine, Western University of Health Sciences (CVM-WU), Pomona, California. CVM-WU is the first veterinary school in the US and Canada to deliver its clinical program in a distributed education model and recently received full accreditation by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Carmen Fuentealba participated in the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) Foresight Project: “Envisioning the Future of Veterinary Medical Education” and served as a member of the AAVMC Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Dr. Fuentealba has been the recipient of several awards for teaching excellence and she has an active research program supervising MSc and PhD students. She holds Adjunct Professor appointments at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, the College of Veterinary Medicine, Western University of Health Sciences, and the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary.
