| Abstract | The therapeutic effect of dietary treatment with monensin was examined in 70 rainbow trout experimentally infected with 200 000 spores of L. salmonae. 35 fish were then a commercial diet containing ionophore monensin (10 g of monensin per kg of diet) and the remaining fish were fed the same diet without iodophor monensin. During the trial all fish developed xenomas. However, the rate of xenoma-development in monensin-treated fish was delayed. At 4 weeks after infection, monensin-treated fish were significantly less likely to have xenomas compared with control fish, but this difference disappeared by week 5 after infection.. |
