| Abstract | A survey of cases of Nocardia spp. mastitis diagnosed at laboratories throughout Canada between January 1987 and June 1989 was conducted. The frequency of reporting of Norcardia spp. mastitis as measured by the proportion of isolations to milk samples submitted, the incidence of infected cows and the prevalence of infected herds indicated a large increase in all provinces except Quebec where it remained relatively stable and British Columbia where the frequency of isolation fell. In 1989 the proportion of isolations to samples submitted ranged from 0.4% in Prince Edward Island to 4.9% in Nova Scotia, the incidence (per 1000 cows) from 0.1 in British Columbia to 9.3 in Nova Scotia and the herd prevalence (per 1000 herds from) 7.8 in British Columbia to 166.7 in Newfoundland.. |
