A case of ketosis in a pregnant sow presented for caesarian delivery is described. In the last few weeks of gestation the sow had been anorexic, and had elevated liver enzymes, ketonuria, and mild ketonaemia. The sow was slaughtered after the litter was delivered. Porcine ketosis can be prevented by balancing energy intakes with energy demands, reducing weight and fat gain in late gestation, and avoiding any condition that can result in inappetance..
